Acer Aspire 5022wlmi Wifi Driver
Hi, I have an Acer Aspire 3023 which has a built in broadcom 802.11g wireless card. The driver is installed by Vista during setup and shows correctly in the device manager but I cannot activate the antenna. There is a button on the front of the laptop which is used to switch on the antenna but when I run the troubleshooter and it asks me to turn the antenna on all I get is a beep when I press the antenna button. I have tried the XP driver and its a no go, I have also tried to install acer's launchmanager software which (on XP) enables the wireless at startup, this also fails to run. I went into the drivers settings to see if there was a 'radio on/off' setting but the options in the driver are pretty sparse with no settings relating to the antenna. I used a PCMCIA wireless card and this runs perfectly but I realy want to use the built in card.
This has been asked before but i'dd like to go into detail and explore another solution on the problem i have: acer aspire series 5020 (5024WLMi) with broadcom wireless adaptor 802.11g (BCM94318MPG) drivers are correct and i even updated bios today. The wireless switch is broken so i was wondering. SUCCESS install the wireless for Acer Aspire 5101 laptop. ACER 3000 aspire (version Wi FI 3.100.64.1 Card broadcom V1468 D0312 rev 4.1, version driver 3.100.64.0 built: Win DDK) but it was very heavy for making, I have spent 2. Using Debian etch 2.6.16-2-amd64-k8 on Acer Aspire 5022WLMi.
Any help would be appreciated Cheers Chris. I got the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5022WLMi and i still found no solution, too.:-( Would be happy if someone helped! I installed the eManager software for my Ferrari 4000 running as an administrator AND with Server 2003 compatibility mode. After a reboot, the hardware buttons for bluetooth and the built in broadcom wireless LAN worked fine.
Also make certain that the device is not disabled in device manager. Hi, I managed to get this working last night. It's not actually the eManager software that controls the button on the front of the laptop. It's actually the LaunchManager, by running Setup in Windows 2003 Server mode (not Win Xp SP2) and as an Administrator, I managed to get the device working after a reboot.
As Barb said - make sure the device isn't disabled in device manager if you have problems. Re: Acer Aspire 3023 Problem enabling 'radio' for built in broadco OK, I had the 32 bit version installed on an Acer 4400 with 64 bit processor. I followed the suggestions and the wireless worked. I uninstalled 32 bit and installed 64 bit Vista but after following all the steps mentioned, no wireless. Does anyone have a work around for the launch mgr in 64 bit.
By the way, the 32 bit and 64 bit launch mgr seem to be Identical. I finally got it to work (Broadcom 4306). I'm accessing the Internet wirelessly as I type and on Mint. No security on the router/modem though.but I'll now go look at that. My VERY sincere thanks to zolly - essetee - eohman (for starting the ball rolling) and scorp123 (especially for not flaming me after my post last night!).
I was tired and I apologise for you getting the 'bad' post. The final 'set up' that worked was a combination of stuff from two different posts: The first one from zolly at the start of this one. And, the post started by eohman.plus my own bit via this router. When I've got everything jotted down I will post and show exactly how 'we' achieved it.
Once again, thank you very much.Mint (and its team) now rocks.completely. Regards, Pete. Here's how I finally managed to get the card working: To set a Broadcom 4306 chipped wi-fi card up in Mint Linux: I connected my PC to my router/modem with an Ethernet cable first, to connect to the Internet. Ensure you have 'bcm43xx-fwcutter' and 'wlassistant' downloaded and installed.
To do this: System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager. You'll be asked for your password.
Click 'Search' and type the name into the box. When the program (bcm43xx-fwcutter) is found, mark it for installation, by clicking into the small box to the left of the file name. A menu appears with 'Mark for installation' showing. Now click the large green tick to apply it (download/install). Repeat the above for the second program (wlassistant). Open a Terminal and type: sudo /usr/share/bcm43xx-fwcutter/install_bcm43xx_firmware.sh Now download the Firmware (Driver?) from here: Unpack it in your home dir ( tar xjvf bcm-firmware.tar.bz2 ) Copy the files from the directory broadcom-wireless-firmware to /lib/firmware. Cd broadcom-wireless-firmware sudo cp * /lib/firmware/ When that's done, go to: System->Administration->Windows Wireless Drivers->Install New Driver Click Install New driver and then click the folder icon to navigate to the broadcom-wireless-firmware folder.
Double click this to open it and select the 'bcmwl5.inf' file at the bottom of the list. It appears in a window to the left and says Hardware present: No I found this strange.but there you go.
Open a Terminal again and type: sudo modprobe bcm43xx sudo wlassistant Note: If you try to run Wireless Assistant from the menu i.e. Applications->Internet->it will ask you to run it in your Root account. This can be sorted by: 1) System->Preferences->Menu Layout 2) click Menus: Internet (left panel) 3) right-click 'Wireless Assistant' ->Properties ->edit the field Command: gksu wlassistant []Run Command in a terminal = should be disabled 4) click 'close' 5) click 'close' Now you can use the menu. The Terminal is not necessary anymore.
If Wireless Assistant finds your networks, then you're up and running. All you have to do is to configure your wireless card (System->Administration->Networking). If the card fails to connect.then check your router/modem security. To test that connection is possible, turn the security off. Allow your router/modem to broadcast it's name.
Do you have MAC filtering on too? Add the card's MAC to it's Whitelist. PCI-card; MAC number is on the back of the card. All you need to do now is sort the security out for your modem/router, I haven't got there yet. But at least your card should be working.
Most of this information was supplied via two separate posts on the Mint forum. I am indebted to: essetee zolly scorp123 eohman Without them, I really wouldn't have been able to set the wi-fi card up, thank you my friends.
Kind regards, Pete. After several months of banging my head against my laptop in frustration, trying other peoples recomendations and posts I found this post and followed the instructions and my compaq presario v5000 is connecting perfectly. However the Network Manager in the icon tray is saying that I am not connected is there a reason to keep that program running? Could it be turned off or removed? Is there a tool bar icon for wlasisstant? Would removing Network Manager have any affect on plugging in the 10/100 lan? Thanks again for clear instructions for a linux newbe.

Hi Grammemo, - On your computer, open this file with firefox: /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/index.html - Look at the instructions written in that HTML file. -->You've already found your PCI_ID: 14e4:4318 (rev 02). -->There is no driver in mintWifi for this PCI_ID. -->There are a lot of possible drivers in the list (see my previous message above). Try all of them.
If ndisgtk tells you 'Hardware Present' then things should be ok. PS: If the driver comes as an EXE, you can use 'unzip' to decompress it and extract the INF and SYS files from it. Clem wrote:Well, the one that says Hardware Present should work for you.
